Buildings in Vilnius
Three main building types are found in Vilnius, and demolition is planned differently for each.
- 5- and 9-storey panel-block apartment buildings (Žirmūnai, Lazdynai, Karoliniškės, Fabijoniškės). Here the load-bearing walls are usually reinforced concrete panel walls, so an opening almost always requires a design and a steel frame.
- Pre-war brick buildings In Naujamiestis, Užupis and Žvėrynas. The walls are thick and the floors are often timber, so we assess them especially carefully before demolition.
- Newly built monolithic buildings. In these buildings usually only partition walls are removed, because they are designed for flexible layouts.
In the old town and other cultural heritage areas the works may require additional approval from the heritage protection authority. We assess this before preparing the design.
